Alaska Paintings by Karen Whitworth

Welcome to our collection of Alaska paintings by award winning artist Karen Whitworth. From her earliest years growing up in the Last Frontier north of Anchorage, her art was inspired by Alaska's wildlife and it's vast landscape. Through oil paint she explores the contrasts between the rugged mountains shrouded in wilderness, and the delicate petals of the fireweed flower or the seemingly playful expressions of puffins nesting on a rocky cliff. It is in this broad spectrum of life in Alaska that she so eloquently captures the light of "The Great Land".

the Colors of Alaska

Her early Alaskan artwork features a palette full of steely blues and soft earthy tones. Over time, as she explored her relationship with this northern landscape and it's inhabitants, the palette of this professional painter started to build on the other side of the spectrum. Warm paint hues began to find their way into her Alaska scenes and wildlife paintings. The Alaskan landscape was no longer represented by an array of cool colors, but now a prism of warmth and vibrant color. One particular oil painting, "Orca Sunrise" which features a glacier scene inspired by her many trips to Prince William Sound, required an entire tube of magenta paint to complete. Since then these new colors have been the vehicle by which she has gained a following and reputation for capturing the vibrant glow of the Alaskan sun.

Custom Alaskan Art

Take your canvas to the next level with our "Artist Enhancement" upgrade. With this selection, your canvas will spend time at the artist's easel where she will add luscious texture and vibrant paint to the surface of the canvas print. This process makes the print almost impossible to distinguish from an original oil painting.
